We would like to welcome our newest recruit, Dr Germán Puga, to the UWA Centre for Agricultural Economics and Development. (CAED). Dr Puga is a new Research Fellow funded through the ARC Training Centre for Behavioural Insights for Technology Adoption (BITA).
Dr Puga has come from The University of Adelaide, where he did a PhD and a postdoc in wine economics. There, he worked at the University of Adelaide’s Wine Economics Research Centre, which is led by Professor Kym Anderson.
"Working with Kym Anderson was a great learning experience. He is one of the best agricultural economists in the world, and by far the best wine economist.
"Australia has some of the best wine economists, also including Julian Alston at UC Davis and James Fogarty at UWA.” said Dr Puga.
Germán is no stranger to UWA. He did his Master’s degree at UWA, where A/Professor James Fogarty supervised his thesis in wine economics.
Over the next 3 years Germán will be working on a different topic under BITA: technology adoption and behavioural economics. He will be doing this under the supervision of Professor Marit Kragt, and in a team of agricultural economists and PhD students.
When asked what motivated him to join UWA, Germán said
“The UWA Centre for Agricultural Economics and Development is the best in the Southern Hemisphere. The Centre is very strong in both technology adoption and behavioural economics. Perhaps more important, it is a great group of people who focus on doing research that matters.”
Germán is looking forward to using behavioural economics to help enhance technology adoption outcomes in Australia’s agricultural industry.
